Buyers use private label and white label interchangeably. Manufacturers often let them. The two models are different in who makes the product, when it is made, and what you can tell a retailer about it. If you are choosing a manufacturer, the difference decides how fresh your product is on day one, whether a competitor can sell the identical item, and how much paperwork you can actually produce when a marketplace asks for it.
White label: finished stock, your sticker
A white label supplier manufactures a generic product in volume, holds it in a warehouse, and sells the same inventory to any brand that asks. Your label goes on at the end. You do not choose the formula, the specification or the batch. You buy what is on the shelf.
The appeal is speed and a very low barrier to entry. The costs are less visible. The product was made before you ordered it, so part of its shelf life is already gone. The same bottle is available to anyone else, so there is nothing exclusive about what you are selling. And because the batch was not made for you, the documentation behind it was not either.
Private label: a proven formula, made for you
In a private label program the manufacturer owns the formula and offers it to brands, but the product is manufactured for your order. You select from a catalog of formulations that are already in the market through other brands, agree a specification, and the lot is made, tested and released under your name.
You still get the speed of a formula that already exists. What you add is control over the specification, a Certificate of Analysis for your lot, and the ability to modify the base, change the pack size or the flavor, and build toward something that is yours.
The difference in one table
| | White label | Private label |
|---|
| When the product is made | Before you order, in bulk, for everyone | When you order, for your lot |
| Shelf life on arrival | Whatever is left | Full shelf life |
| Formula | Fixed, generic, shared | Proven base you can modify |
| Documentation | Generic, if any | Specification and COA for your lot |
| Exclusivity | None | Grows with every modification |
| Path to custom | Start over elsewhere | Same facility, same quality system |
Why BioB Manufacturing does not white label
We do not keep pre-made stock waiting for a label. Every lot is manufactured when you order it. That is a deliberate choice, and it is one of the reasons brands that sell through retailers and marketplaces work with us.
Your product ships with its full shelf life. Nothing you sell has spent months in someone else's warehouse before it reached your customer.
Every repeat run matches the same specification. Because each lot is made to the specification you signed off, the tenth run is the same product as the first, with a Certificate of Analysis to show it.
The documentation is real. Retailers and marketplaces ask for a COA, a finished-product specification and a GMP certificate for the facility that made the product. When the lot was made for you, those documents exist and describe your product.
The botanical extracts are ours. BioB Manufacturing is the finished-goods arm of Bio-Botanica, which has made botanical extracts since 1972. The extracts are sourced globally and made in New York, in the same facility that fills your bottle.
Which model fits your brand
If you need the lowest possible cost to test an idea and you do not mind selling the same product as everyone else, white label exists for that. If you want a product with its full shelf life, a specification you own a copy of, and a route from a proven formula to something exclusive, private label is the right model.
Our private label catalog holds more than 300 formulations across liquid supplements, alcohol-free extracts, capsules, tablets, powders, oral care, pet wellness and personal care. Minimum order quantities are published: 5,000 units for liquids and personal care, 2,500 for liquids 8 oz and larger, 300,000 for capsules and tablets. Lead time is about 12 weeks from approved formula and packaging to finished goods.
