Why brands choose a US cosmetic contract manufacturer

We make the botanical extracts

Botanical extraction in house since 1972, in the same building as the filling line. Sourced globally, made in New York, so traceability of the actives starts with us rather than a broker.

Made fresh to order

No white label stock. Every lot is manufactured when you order it and ships with its full shelf life.

Minimums you can plan around

5,000 units per SKU under 8 oz and 2,500 units at 8 oz and above, stated on this page rather than confirmed later.

One US site

A single 160,000 sq ft FDA-registered facility in New York. No import step, no tariff variable, no offshore transit between you and a stockout.

Topicals and supplements together

Serums, creams, lotions, oils and hair care alongside liquid supplements, capsules, lozenges and oral care. One vendor, one quality system, one documentation package.

We tell you what you own

The MoCRA responsibility split is set out before the quote, so your brand knows whether it is the Responsible Person before signing, not after.

What is made in house

Most cosmetic contract manufacturers buy their botanical actives from an ingredient broker. BioB is the contract manufacturing division of Bio-Botanica, which has extracted botanicals in Hauppauge since 1972. The extract in your serum and the serum itself come from the same site, the same quality system and the same batch records.

Botanical extraction

More than 20,000 kg of botanicals extracted per week across glycerin, water, alcohol-free and propylene glycol systems, giving formulators cosmetic-grade extracts that are documented from raw plant to finished lot.

Compounding

Liquid compounding from 50 to 3,300 gallons, covering pilot runs through full production for emulsions, gels, oils and cleansing systems.

Filling

Droppers, airless pumps, jars, tubes, treatment bottles, fine-mist and trigger sprays, and larger body-care fills.

On-site QC and microbiology

Identity, assay and micro testing in house with HPLC, UPLC-MS/MS, GC/MS, LC/MS and ICP/MS, so release does not wait on an outside lab.

Custom extracts and blends

Proprietary botanical blends and standardized extracts developed for a single brand, which no other customer can order.

Spray and vacuum drying

Spray drying up to 100 kg per hour and vacuum tray drying for powdered extracts used in masks, cleansers and dry formats.

Quality, documentation and MoCRA

Under the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act, the brand that markets a cosmetic is normally the Responsible Person. A cosmetic contract manufacturer has to give that brand what the role requires: a registered facility, product listing information, batch records, a specification and a certificate of analysis for every lot.

What BioB holds

FDA facility registration, NSF GMP and FSSC 22000 certification, the master formula and batch records, the release test results for every lot, and the raw material documentation for every extract we produce.

What your brand holds

The product listing with FDA, the safety substantiation file, labeling and adverse event records. We supply the manufacturing-side information that file depends on, in writing, before the first run.

Certifications

NSF GMP, FSSC 22000, FDA-registered facility, USDA Organic, Kosher and Halal. Certification scope is confirmed per product at quote.

Documentation with every lot

Certificate of analysis against the agreed specification, batch record summary, and the technical and safety data sheets for the extracts used.

Specification sign-off

The specification and test panel are fixed in writing at sample approval, so release criteria are agreed before production, not negotiated after.

Label review

You supply the artwork; we check the ingredient declaration and panel against the product before the run.

How to choose a cosmetic contract manufacturer

Six questions to put to any US cosmetic contract manufacturer before you request a quote, and how BioB answers each one.

Where do the actives come from?

Most manufacturers buy botanical extracts from a broker and cannot show you the raw plant. BioB extracts in house and documents every lot from raw material to finished extract.

Is the minimum stated or confirmed later?

Ask for the number before the call. BioB's minimums are on this page: 5,000 units under 8 oz, 2,500 units at 8 oz and above.

What is the real lead time?

About 12 weeks from approved formula and packaging to finished goods at BioB, with packaging components named in the quote as the usual variable.

Who tests and releases the lot?

An outside lab adds days to every release. BioB runs identity, assay and microbiology on site and releases against the agreed specification.

What do you get with the shipment?

A certificate of analysis, batch record summary and the extract documentation your MoCRA file depends on, not just pallets.

Can one vendor cover the whole range?

Brands that sell a serum and a supplement usually run two manufacturers. BioB makes topicals and ingestibles under one quality system and one documentation package.

Cosmetic contract manufacturing: common buyer questions

What does a cosmetic contract manufacturer do?

A cosmetic contract manufacturer makes finished skin, hair or body care products for a brand that sells them. BioB formulates or adapts the product, sources the components, compounds and fills it, tests and releases it against an agreed specification, and ships it with a certificate of analysis. The brand owns the product listing and the marketing; BioB owns the manufacturing.

What products do you make?

Serums, creams, moisturizers, lotions, body care, facial mists and toners, botanical and treatment oils, shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatments. We do not make color cosmetics, nail products or fragrance.

What are your minimum order quantities?

5,000 units per SKU for fills under 8 oz. Fills of 8 oz and larger, including most shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, start at 2,500 units.

How long does it take?

About 12 weeks from approved formula and packaging to finished goods. Packaging component availability, not manufacturing capacity, is what usually moves the date.

Private label or custom: which do I need?

Private label puts your brand on a formula from our catalog that is already in the market through other brands. Custom means the specification is yours, developed from your benchmark or brief, and no one else can order it. Both run on the same minimums.

Who is the Responsible Person under MoCRA?

Normally the brand. BioB registers and maintains the facility with FDA and supplies the batch records, specification and COA. The brand, as Responsible Person, lists the product with FDA and holds the safety substantiation file. We supply the manufacturing-side information that file depends on.

Do you make the botanical extracts in your formulas?

Yes. BioB is the contract manufacturing division of Bio-Botanica, which has produced botanical extracts in Hauppauge, New York since 1972. The extracts in your product and the product itself are made in the same facility under the same quality system.

Can I get samples before committing?

Yes. Catalog products can be sampled as they are; a modified or custom formula is sampled once the formulation is made. Samples come after the preliminary quote so you know the numbers first.

Can you supply packaging?

Yes. We source droppers, airless pumps, jars, tubes, bottles and sprayers from our component suppliers, or fill into components you supply. Component lead time is set out in the quote because it is the usual driver of the delivery date.

What certifications does the facility hold?

NSF GMP, FSSC 22000, FDA registration, USDA Organic, Kosher and Halal, in Hauppauge, New York. The scope that applies to a specific product is confirmed at quote.

Do you work with start-ups?

Yes, where the launch plan meets the minimums above. We do not run below 2,500 units per SKU and do not hold white label stock, so a brand should be ready to commit to a first production lot.
